We all fall victim to cognitive distortions every day. Defining and putting language to a thought pattern or mindset can help build self awareness which in turn offers choices. Here are some of the main cognitive distortions definitions.

Being aware of our window of tolerance can help us determine the right avenue for moving forward, taking a step back, or using our coping skills to address our needs if we are outside of our window. When in our window, we are more likely to feel safe and therefore have effective communication and connection with others. Identifying which coping skills work for you when outside of your window is something that can happen in therapy.

Everyone has their own unique comfort zone. When straying outside of our comfort - socially, professionally, emotionally, somatically, etc. - it is common to feel fear. Beyond fear lives learning and growth. Moving through fear is worth it in some instances, and not in others. There is no pressure to expand your comfort zones unless you decide it is a goal of yours.

Our core beliefs can dictate how we see ourselves and the world. They often stem from difficult childhood experiences. Bringing greater overlap between our subconscious messages and our conscious awareness can be empowering and help alleviate the intensity of a harmful belief while working to build a more accurate belief of yourself and the world.
